When the patches arrived they were larger than I expected. I'm not very good at judging size. I have used two patches so far. The first patch I used I just ironed it on, then I went back and read the directions to use steam and the paper backing included. I did, I don't know that the steam did a better job than just a hot iron. Also using the paper from the back of the patch left a waxy residue on the seen part of the patch. My second go around, I still used the steam iron, but I used regular paper and it looks better, no waxy residue. I cannot speak to longevity. They feel soft-ish. I hope they will soften up a bit but my son hasn't said they bother him. He, in fact likes to show them off.
